Rashtriya Military School Ajmer: About Us

“Rashtriya Military School, Ajmer”, with its panoramic view of surrounding hills, spread over 92 acres was founded on 15th November, 1930 as King George’s Royal Indian Military School to take care of education of sons of defence personnel.

In 1952, the school was reorganized on public school lines and admissions were made open to the sons of Defence Service Officers and Civilians. In 1954, the school became the member of the Indian Public School Conference (IPSC). The School was renamed Military School in 1966 and its old motto ‘play the game’ was replaced with ‘Sheelam Param Bhushanam‘ which means ‘character is the highest virtue‘. On 25th June 2007 the school got its present name ‘Rashtriya Military School Ajmer’.

The Rashtriya Military School Ajmer, an English medium school affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi is a category ‘A’ establishment run by the Ministry of Defence and is an active member of the IPSC. The school has several of its alumni occupying high positions in the Armed Forces and in other sectors doing stellar service to the motherland.

In 1952, the school was reorganized on Public School lines and admissions were made open to the sons of defence service officers and civilians. In 1954, this school became member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) and continues to be an active member till date. There are four more Rashtriya Military Schools located at Chail (Shimla hills), Dholpur (Raj.), Bangalore and Belgaum (Karnataka) having commonality of aims and objectives.

Rashtriya Military School, Ajmer is a Cat ‘A’ institution of the Indian Army, primarily catering to the wards of PBOR of Indian Armed Forces. The School has a distinguished history of over 86 years with several of our alumni occupying high positions in the Armed Forces as well as in public and private sectors, doing yeoman service to the motherland. School is a nursery to prepare future cadets for Armed Forces.

Rashtriya Military Schools are English medium residential Public Schools run by the Ministry of Defence to impart quality education to wards of defence personnel and civilians from Classes VI to XII. These Schools are the founding members of the Indian Public School’s Conference (IPSC). Established in the year 1925, these Schools are among the oldest Public Schools in India. There are five Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) located at Chail in Shimla Hills of Himachal Pradesh, Ajmer and Dholpur in Rajasthan, Belgaum and Bangalore in Karnataka. Cadets are admitted into Class VI & IX through a Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted under the aegis of the Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army).
