The original candidates – Aatish, 20, and Ajay Kumar, 19, both from Haryana – have been arrested. Major Sumit Dhiman, administrative officer of Rashtriya Military School, filed a complaint with Ashoknagar police. The school had issued a notification for lower division clerks’ recruitment on March 9, 2023. The written exam was held on March 24, 2024 and skill exam was scheduled for March 30. Candidates aged between 18 and 25 years who’ve passed class 12 and have English-typing skills at 35 words per minute (wpm) were eligible to take the examination.

The arrested duo had applied for the job and paid the exam fee through DD. The two impersonating them appeared for the exam on the school campus in Austin Town. As per procedure, officials had collected the fingerprints of those appearing for the written exam. When Aatish and Ajay appeared for the skill exam on March 30, they found their fingerprints were mismatching with that provided during the written exam. Suspecting a fraud, officials checked their records and realised that fake candidates had appeared on Aatish and Ajay’s behalf. The two, on interrogation by school administrative staff, confessed to the offence.

A senior police officer said Aatish confessed that his relative, who is good at writing competitive exams, appeared on his behalf, while Ajay had sent a friend. They didn’t pay any money to them but took care of their travel and other expenses. The two were not aware that their fingerprints would be compared as their own Aadhaar cards were used by the fake candidates.

The duo are in police custody for further interrogation. A team has been formed to nab the fake candidates, who fled to Haryana.

According to police sources, the school management will take measures to bar the duo from all defence examinations after police files a chargesheet against them. A case has been registered under Sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC.
